When creating a document to send for signature, creating templates, or creating rules, you need to prepare the document by inserting fillable control fields to capture the signer’s information.

Fillable control fields panel
The fillable control fields panel includes all the available control fields that can be added when preparing a signature request.
The panel, by default, will be placed at the bottom of the screen. However, you can use the arrow icons to move the panel to the left or right side of the window.
When placing the panel to either side, you can also identify fillable control fields by their names.
How to add fillable control fields to a document
The fillable control fields are added to the document within the Send tab at Step 2: Prepare.
To add these fields follow these instructions:
1. Drag and drop the fillable control field button into the document as required.
2. After the control field is added to the document, a pop-up window will appear with control-specific options.
3. Set the fillable control field settings and press the green check box.
Available fillable control fields and control-specific settings
The following fillable control fields may be dragged and dropped into the document while preparing it for signature. Click on each option to learn about their available settings.
- Signature
- Initials
- Date and time stamp
- Name
- Title
- Company
- Email
- Dropdown list
- Checkbox
- Radio button
- Date
- Text

- Hyperlink
Signature
The signature-specific settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to add a signature in this field.
- Required: Yes: Filling out the control field required to be filled. No: Filling out the control field is optional.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the Signature field.
- Text color: Set the color of the text placed in this field.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When you hover over the added signature field, the edit and delete buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the signature control field.

Initials
The initials-specific settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to fill out this field.
- Required: Yes: Filling out the control field required to be filled. No: Filling out the control field is optional.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the control field.
- Text color: Set the color of the text placed in this field.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When you hover over the added initials field, the edit and delete buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.

Date and time stamp
The available settings are:
- Signer: Select the appropriate signer the control is assigned to, if the document is sent to more than one recipient. The timestamp will auto-populate upon completion of the document by this signer.
- Text formatting: Set the formatting, font type, text size and/or the color of the text placed in this field.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When you hover over the added date and time stamp field, the edit and delete buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.
Note: This field is not visible to the signer when they open the document for signing. The RSign system auto-populates the date and time to reflect when the signers complete the signing process.

Name
The name-specific settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to fill out this field.
- Required: Yes: Filling out the control field required to be filled. No: Filling out the control field is optional.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the control field.
- Length: The default Name field length is set to 20 characters. This may be adjusted by resizing the Name field on the document or changing the number of characters in this field.
- Fixed Width: When checked, Name control will maintain a constant width and will not automatically expand, even if the number of characters entered exceeds the control boundaries.
- Text color: Set the color of the text placed in this field.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When you hover over the added Name field, the edit and delete buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.

The title-specific settings are:

Dropdown list
The dropdown-specific settings are:
- Signer: if the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to choose from the dropdown menu.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the dropdown menu.
- Required: Check the required box to make this a mandatory field.
- First line blank: Check to make the first line of the dropdown menu blank and provide no default answer. If unchecked the first option in the dropdown will be selected by default.
- Options: Add the dropdown options into this field in the desired order and press the green [+] button. The red trash can icon deletes the item.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When the mouse hovers over the added control field, the edit, delete and add dependencies buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.
- Clicking on the puzzle icon will allow you to create dependencies.

Checkbox
The checkbox-specific settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will be asked to check a box.
- Checkbox groups: If checked, the sender has the option of assigning a name to a group of checkboxes and each individual checkbox.
- Required: Check the required box if this is a mandatory field.
- Pre-selected: When selected, the check box will appear already checked in the document the signer receives.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When the mouse hovers over the added control field, the edit, delete and add dependencies buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.
- Clicking on the puzzle icon will allow you to create dependencies.

Radio button
This control field settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will be asked to select a radio button option.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the radio button.
- Group name: This field assigns the radio button to a specific group of radio buttons. For example, the group could be named Animals and all radio buttons with the same group name will be grouped together. When selecting, the signer will have an option to pick only one radio button within the group.
- Radio name: This option allows you to name the specific radio button. Radio buttons are named Radio by default. Examples shown in table below.

- Required (Template group): Check this box to make it required for the assigned recipient to select an option from this group.
- Pre-selected: When checked, the radio button will appear already selected in the document the signer receives.

Date
The date-specific settings are:
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to fill out this field.
- Required: Yes: Filling out the control field required to be filled. No: Filling out the control field is optional.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the control field.
- Text formatting: Set the color of the text placed in this field.
- Prefill current date for the signer: When selected, the date will be auto populated in the document the signer receives.

Text
The text-specific settings are:
- Label: Name the text field.
- Custom tooltip: You may enter the message that will appear when the user hovers the mouse over the text field.
- Signer: If the document is set to be sent to more than one recipient, assign the signer who will need to add text in this field.
- Required: Yes: The text field is required. No: The text field is optional.
- Validation type: Select what kind of information the signer must enter on that field.
- Length: The default Text field length is set to 20 characters. This may be adjusted by resizing the Text field on the document or changing the number of characters in this field.
- Fixed Width: When checked, Text control will maintain a constant width and will not automatically expand, even if the number of characters entered exceeds the control boundaries.
- Text formatting: Set the formatting, font type, text size and/or the color of the text placed in this field.

Label
The label-specific settings are:
- Label: Enter the text that will be printed on the document and will be visible to all signers.
- Text formatting: Set the formatting, font type, text size and/or the color of the text placed in this field.

Hyperlink
The hyperlink-specific settings are:
- Text to display: Add the text that the signer will see in the document and on which they will click to access the URL. The hyperlink will be visible to all parties and will not be editable.
- URL: Add the URL address.
- Text formatting: Set the font type and color of the text placed in this field.
To save the control field configuration, press the green checkmark icon.
When you hover over the added field, the edit and delete buttons appear:
- Clicking on the pencil icon will bring back the editing window.
- Clicking on the X icon will delete the control field.
